The iPhone 16, a resemblance to the iPhone X and a new Capture button

The euphoria around the Vision Pro having slightly subsided, conversations around the next iPhone (number 16) can resume, focusing this morning on a somewhat familiar look and a new button.

The return of the pill-shaped sensor!

The iPhone 16 Pro Max would benefit from a larger and more advanced camera sensor. It would – a priori – be a Sony IMX903 sensor (still 48 megapixels).

It would feature advanced functions, such as a stacked sensor (for better performance) and a 14-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for high-quality image data conversion. In addition, there is a digital gain control (DCG) for better dynamic range and improved noise control.

Design-wise, the sensors change every year. In 2024, we are expected to see a familiar design: a pill-shaped alignment that resembles the module of the iPhone X (which is not compatible with iOS 17, let’s remember!). The information should be taken with a grain of salt, as it comes from a Weibo user who has a moderate confirmation rate for details on the iPhone.

A new Capture Button

Fans of the Action Button on the iPhone 15 might be drawn to this feature on the iPhone 16! In fact, it would be equipped with a Capture Button situated on the lower part of the right side. It should take the place of the mmWave antenna for US iPhones (this would be moved to the other edge under the volume buttons).

This button should be able to detect multiple levels of pressure to enable different possible actions, such as taking a photo or video. According to Mark Gurman, it could record a video, zoom in and out by swiping left or right, or even focus on a subject.
