OnePlus 12 Test: A powerful smartphone, with a major flaw

The OnePlus 12 is equipped with a powerful configuration, from its powerful processor to its superb display. Our tests highlight its marathon battery life and very short charging time. In short, a smartphone that strives to justify its flagship status and its price of 969 euros in its base version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Our test model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is priced at 999 euros. The OnePlus 12 displays higher prices than the previous year’s OnePlus 11.

In a time when inflation weighs heavily on purchasing power and competition is fierce, raising the price of its phones is a risky strategy for OnePlus. The OnePlus 12 competes well against Google’s Pixel 8 Pro (priced at 949 euros), offering more RAM and storage capacity. Its battery life and processor performance distinguish it favorably from the Pixel. But the latter is undoubtedly better for photography. Furthermore, the seven years of software and security updates are a clear advantage compared to the four years for software updates and five years for security patches of the OnePlus 12.

Overall, it’s hard to choose between the two.

It all depends on what you expect from your phone. If you’re a passionate photographer, go for the Pixel. Do you love video games? The OnePlus is for you.

A familiar design

The style of the OnePlus 12 does not stray far from that of the OnePlus 11. It features an almost identical circular camera module, set in a curved glass back with a shiny aluminum frame. The back of the 12 is now frosted, and the green model we tested has a marbled pattern that we like. The phone is pleasant to hold, with a feeling of solidity and luxury more premium than the glossy and slippery back of the OnePlus 11.
