Layoffs in the video game industry: Reikon and Little Red Dog added to the list | Xbox

You are certainly not unaware that the year 2023 clearly has not been positive for the video game industry, notably due to thousands of layoffs. Unfortunately, 2024 follows the same trend and People Can Fly and Black Forest Games are added to the list.

Below is a summary of all the studios that have been affected by layoffs since the beginning of the year. We relied on the work done by Kotaku to create this list, supplemented by other layoffs that we discovered on our end. We will continue to update the list in the coming months. The different cases of layoffs have been listed in chronological order, so you will find the most recent ones at the bottom of the article. As of January 25, 2024, there are already approximately 6000 jobs lost since the beginning of the year.

List of studios impacted by layoffs in 2024

Archiact – Number of laid-off employees unknown

Archiact, a studio specializing in the development of virtual reality games, announced on January 4 that it had laid off an unspecified number of employees.

Unity Software – 1,800 employees laid off

Reuters revealed on January 8 that Unity, the company behind the famous game engine, had laid off a first wave of employees as part of an ongoing “reset” of the company. In total, it is expected that 25% of the workforce will be affected.
