Dragon's Dogma 2: PC Requirements and Performance

Capcom recently rekindled the action-RPG flame with the release of Dragon's Dogma 2 on PC. Powered by the RE Engine, the game promises stunning graphics and a vast and immersive open world. But how does it fare in terms of performance?

To answer this question, our colleagues at DSOGaming put Dragon's Dogma 2 through a series of rigorous tests in three different configurations, each representing a different segment of the PC market. And the results are interesting.

Setting 1:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
  • Memory: 32 GB DDR5 at 6000 MHz
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090

Configuration 2:

  • Processor: Intel Core i9-13900K
  • Memory: 32 GB DDR4 at 3600 MHz
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

Configuration 3:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  • Memory: 16 GB DDR4 at 3200 MHz
  • Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT

As expected, the combination of Ryzen 9 7950X3D and RTX 4090 turns out to be a real power monster. At native 4K with all settings maxed out and ray tracing enabled, the game averages 65 fps, with a constant minimum of 60 fps. Disabling ray tracing allows you to shoot a few extra frames, averaging 80 fps. DLSS 3 technology, meanwhile, provides a significant boost, averaging 128 fps in quality mode with frame capture.

The i9-13900K and RTX 3080 make a great duo for playing Dragon's Dogma 2 at native 4K resolution. With all settings maxed out and ray tracing enabled, the average is 45 fps, with a minimum of 40 fps. Disabling ray tracing provides a smoother experience, averaging 60 fps. DLSS 3 also comes in handy here, averaging 90fps in quality and framerate mode.

Ryzen 5 5600X and RX 6700 XT do not allow you to comfortably play in native 4K with all settings at maximum and ray tracing enabled. The average drops to 35 fps, with occasional dips below 30 fps. However, reducing the resolution to 1440p, the game plays perfectly, with an average of 50 fps and a minimum of 45 fps. Ray tracing can be turned on occasionally, but it's best to turn it off for the best experience. DLSS 3 is also very useful here, averaging 85fps in Quality and Framerate mode.

Overall, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a resource-intensive game, but it's possible to have a smooth experience with the right configuration.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is an excellent game that offers an immersive and fun experience. If you have a powerful setup, you'll be able to enjoy the game in all its glory at native 4K resolution with all settings maxed out. If your budget is tighter, you can enjoy the game by lowering the resolution or graphics settings. And for the curious, we invite you to read the full test with friends.
